Before visiting Crikvenica, I expected a typical Croatian seaside town with beaches, restaurants, and summer crowds. After spending a week there, I discovered a few things that genuinely surprised me. Some were positive, some unexpected, but all of them made the trip memorable.
I rented an apartment in Crikvenica located on a hill, 200 meters from the sea, with a balcony on the third floor, so I had a perfect view of the sea. It was a comfortable and quiet apartment with air conditioning, and the price was not high, around 50 euros per night.
The Waterfront Is Much Bigger Than I Expected
The waterfront in Crikvenica is much bigger than I expected. As you stroll along the promenade, you’re greeted by a wide, beautifully maintained walkway that stretches for miles along the sparkling Adriatic Sea. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, with families, couples, and solo travelers all enjoying the fresh sea breeze. Colorful cafes and restaurants line the path, offering delicious local seafood and refreshing drinks. The sound of gentle waves lapping against the shore mixes with the cheerful chatter of people and the occasional street musician playing soft tunes. Palm trees and vibrant flowers add to the scenic beauty, making it a perfect place to unwind and soak in the charm of this coastal town. Whether you’re taking a leisurely walk, renting a bike, or simply sitting on a bench watching the sunset, the Crikvenica waterfront offers an inviting and unforgettable experience.
The Water Was Surprisingly Clear
Swimming in Crikvenica offers a refreshing experience, as the clear water allows for excellent visibility, making it perfect for snorkeling and underwater exploration. The calm and inviting sea makes Crikvenica a perfect spot for families, couples, and solo travelers looking to enjoy the Adriatic’s natural splendor.
Whether you are relaxing on the beach or taking a boat trip along the coast, the surprisingly clear water of Crikvenica will leave a lasting impression and invite you to return year after year.

Here’s What Surprised Me Most
In Crikvenica, I was surprised by the beaches, or rather the large number of beaches for swimming, which are kilometers long, so you can choose the beach you like, from sandy to rocky and concrete ones. It really takes a lot of time and days to visit all these beaches.
On most beaches in Crikvenica, you can buy something to eat. Just behind the beaches, there are restaurants and cafes where you can also enjoy a meal and find some shade.
Prices Were Not as High as I Feared
Prices in Crikvenica were surprisingly reasonable and not as high as I had feared. From accommodation to dining, the costs were affordable, making it easy to enjoy the beautiful coastal town without breaking the bank. Overall, the value for money exceeded my expectations. The price of a scoop of ice cream or coffee is around 2 euros. You can find fast food near the beach for as little as 8 euros in some places.
Evenings And Sunset Were the Best Part of the Day
Evenings in Crikvenica are truly the best part of the day. As the sun sets, the sky transforms into beautiful shades of pink and orange, creating a peaceful and magical atmosphere. The gentle sea breeze and the sound of waves make evening strolls along the promenade especially relaxing. Local cafes and restaurants come alive with laughter and music, offering a perfect end to a day spent exploring this charming coastal town.
